Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of So Bored STEM.
We did STEM again, as you can see by the title. Sophia wasn't even here, she was at Ki O Rahi. Emm...😐
So Ocea, Quinn and I had to work together. That's not quite so bad! This time, we had to make a chair that would support a soft toy out of paper and tape. And it had to be 10 cm tall. I didn't get a picture as Ocea might just have accidentally broke it before we took the picture. At least we managed to stay together... Here's what the teachers told us to write:
WALT: problem solve as a team
What went well: teamwork and planning
What was challenging: trying to put it together
Have you done this before?
I did kind of enjoy it, though...
Kia ora, I am a student at New Brighton Catholic School, Welcome - Haere Mai. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note my work may include spelling or other errors because some of it will be my first drafts. I would like to get your feedback - comments, thoughts, questions and ideas to help me Learn Create Share.

S.T.E.M episode 2
WALT: work and solve problems as a team
So today Room 2 and Room 4 did STEM, again, and this time we had to build a bridge that would hold 2 exercise books when suspended from 2 desks. It went... better than last time. (I did have to keep telling Ocea and Quinn to come back, though.) We could only use 6 big pop sticks, 15 small pop sticks, and 10 rubber bands, and in an emergency, Sellotape. It actually WORKED!
What went well: the planning and teamwork
What didn't go well: building and trying to get it to stay up
What we will do next time: to make sure everyone is on task
What do you think of our bridge?- I couldn't find a picture BTW, will fix

Here´s my passion project. We had to research a topic we really liked and put it into a slideshow, google drawing or poster. I did mine about Minecraft. Here it is!
Do you like it? It took me quite a while to make.

Our trip to the beach
When Room 2 went to the beach to learn about sand dunes, I learned that sand dunes are formed by wind eroding the mountains and breaks the rocks to make the sand, and the sand goes into the river. The river takes the sand into the ocean, and the waves deposit it on the shore, then the wind blows it into the sand dunes.
Wind can put more sand and take the sand away. Storm waves can erode the sand, and humans can damage the sand dunes by running on them. We can protect the sand dunes by planting plants, like the... I can´t spell them! Bugs also live in these plants. A type of spider, lizards and geckos, they all protect the sand dunes. The plants hold the sand in place so it doesn´t blow away.
Did you know there used to be a house near the sand dunes? The people who lived in it couldn´t see the sea; the sand dune was in the way, so they decided they would get part of the sand dune scooped away. Seems good enough, huh? No. The wind funnelled the sand inwards, and into the house´s roof space. A few years later, the roof collapsed with the weight of the sand. Don´t mess with nature!

Cybersmart: the game
Room 2 and room 3 did this game, you make a copy, add a circle, use it as a counter, then go to Google and load up a dice roller. Then you roll the dice, move your circle thingy the number of spaces, then click on the little icon and do the activity. i want to thank James Hopkins for creating the game and all the slides and drawings, they are so much fun!
Square Two: Video One
I watched the video, then typed in 5 ways to show good netiquette.
Hope it´s helpful!
I talked with Emily about copyright rules, and about something called fair use. Fair use is when you use the thing you found on the internet for school, or you only use a small amount of the work. It also counts as fair use if you change the work a little to make it original, or not use it to make money, also known as nonprofit purposes.

Abraham and Sarah
This is my Abraham and Sarah DLO. The story of Abraham and Sarah is, there were two people called Abraham and Sarah. They really wanted a baby but Sarah could never become pregnant. God told them to move to a different area so they could lead a nation. They went.
They waited for ages and ages, and moved to an area called Canaan. They got really impatient of waiting. God took Abraham outside, and told him He would give him as many children as the stars. After Abraham's 100th birthday, Sarah got pregnant. She named the baby Isaac, which means laughter. Sarah said, "God has given laughter to me."

Exploring
Exploring
Chapter 1
Alex woke up in her bed, then remembered it was the summer holidays! Her phone rings from beside the bed. “What?” asked Alex groggily.“It’s me, Makayla! Can I come over?”
“But I just woke up!” complained Alex. The doorbell rang. “Hang on, someone’s at the door!” Alex ended the call, ran to the front door and opened the door. Makayla was there. She had a huge smile on her face. She flicked her wavy golden hair away from her face. “I was thinking we could go exploring!” Makayla brandished her bag.
“Well, okay.”
“Can I help you pack?” asked Makayla excitedly.
“Well, okay.” Alex said again. Into the bag went four sandwiches. Two tuna, one ham and cheese and one fishpaste. They took a few packets of crisps, then they went to the fridge. Three apples, a cucumber sandwich, carrot sticks, then they packed their phones. Three water bottles went in, straws in case they would have to share the last one. An extra jacket for both of them, pest repellent and tools for building a shelter. Alex got changed into more outdoorsy clothes. They walked out the back door.
They walked for a while along the path, then they sat down for a snack. Alex and Makayla shared a baggie of carrot sticks. They kept on walking. After a very long while, Makayla noticed it was getting dark. Alex checked her phone, and the weather forecast said it was going to rain!
Makayla pitched the tent, and Alex collected biggish logs to make a shelter over the canvas tent. After Makayla got the tent up, she went to help Alex with the log roof. “Hey, What about we collect pieces of bark and small sticks to cover up the gaps?” asked Makayla.
“Okay,” Alex agreed as she pounded in a nail. After a while, they went back in the tent. Some time later, it DID start raining! The rain filtered through the cracks and gaps in the logs and sticks, and soaked the tent.
Chapter 2
All night long, Alex and Makayla stayed in their steadily wet tent, then when the rain stopped in the early hours of the morning, they rolled up their soaking wet tent and Alex shoved it into a plastic bag. After ripping the cucumber sandwich in half (and eating it), they marked an x on the tree nearby and they started walking again. Makayla took her water bottle out of her bag. “Makayla, don’t drink it ALL!” Alex gasped as Makayla chugged the water.
“Oh… Oopsy.” giggled Makayla. After a while, she added, “I was thinking we could fill it up in nearby creeks.”
“You know, Makayla, that isn’t a bad idea!” Alex said thoughtfully. As they walked, they brainstormed ideas for how they could build the next night’s shelter. Alex and Makayla discussed for a LONG time, until they decided they would build a treehouse. Alex realised it was going to take ages to build, so they started building even though it wasn’t dark.
Makayla hammered some small planks into the tree as a ladder, then went to help Alex with the platform. By the time night fell, they had built a small treehouse. It was basically just a platform under the leaves. “Hey,” came a voice from behind them. Alex and Makayla almost fell off the platform in shock. There was a boy behind them. “I’m Max.” When he caught their puzzled looks, he added, “Yes I do have blue hair. Sorry I startled you. Thanks for not kicking me out.” he noticed. Alex yawned. “I’ll just go to sleep now.”
“Same.” Makayla added sleepily.
Once Max was sure they were both asleep, he took one of their packets of crisps. In the morning, Makayla went to grab a packet of crisps, but realised… “There are only three packets of crisps! There used to be four!”
“That’s strange. Maybe it fell out.” Alex observed as she crunched on an apple. She packed her bag and kept walking with Makayla. “Oh, bye!” she called to Max, who had been standing in the corner.
Chapter 3
They walked, then came up to a desolate house. Alex wanted to shelter inside it. Makayla didn’t. “There might be spiders,” she whimpered. “Makayla!” Alex scolded. “There might be spiders, yes, but WHY ARE YOU SCARED?” They went inside. Flick, flick. “The light switch doesn’t work!”
“Yes Makayla what’d you expect?” They rolled out their sleeping bags and went to sleep. At about 1 o’clock in the morning, the creaking of floorboards woke Makayla up. “Alex, what’s that noise?” whispered Makayla frantically.
“Just the pipes probably.” They went back to sleep.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………..
Alex and Makayla woke up at about 7:30 am. Alex yawned. She went to grab a sandwich, but all she could find was an apple and the squished fishpaste sandwich. “Our food’s gone! She shrieked. Makayla looked in the bag. “Now what are we supposed to eat!?” she wailed. “And the hammer’s gone…”muttered Alex, then Makayla had an idea. “What about you eat the fishpaste sandwich and I eat the apple?”
“No,” Alex giggled, “What about YOU eat the fishpaste sandwich and I eat the apple?”
“You eat it!”
“No, you!”
Creeeeeakk. The floorboards creaked. “Max? What are YOU doing here?“ cried Alex. A packet of crisps fluttered to the ground. “You’ve been taking our food!” At those words, he scurried off. Up the stairs, knocking over a vase, down the stairs, an apple ricocheting off the door, around the room, upsetting a candleholder. Alex collected the food dropped.
When they got close, Max dropped ALL the food and swung up onto the dusty chandelier. A cloud of dust rained down on them. “Cough-cough-koff-cough-koff-koff-” came a storm of coughing from Alex and Makayla. Max used this temporary distraction to scamper off again. BAM! He ran so fast he wasn’t looking where he was going, and banged into a dusty old bookshelf! Max realised he dropped the food, tried to run for it, made a wild grab for the food but Makayla held him there. “NOPE.”
Chapter 4
“Why did you take our food?” Alex cut in.“Um, ah, er, um, emm, eep, er, I don’t know…” Max stuttered then broke off into a mumble. He stood there for a while, hanging his head. “But I could help you find your way home,” he added brightly a while later. “We don’t need a little-” Makayla started to snap. “Sorry, but I don’t think we need any help.” Alex interrupted. “Okay.” Max mumbled sadly.
Once Max was out of earshot, Makayla gasped, “That complete @&$% !” “And I was thinking we go home…” Makayla added a while later. “Good idea.” agreed Alex. They packed up their stuff and walked out. “Um, you don’t know which way is home, do you… “Well, according to my calculations…umm… I don’t know!” realised Alex.
“Where’s that little $&^£ when you need him?!” groaned Makayla.
Chapter 5
“Makayla, DON’T SWEAR.” sighed Alex. They walked and walked and WALKED until they found a small cave. They rolled out their sleeping bags, then they realised they were completely and utterly LOST. “We’ll worry about it later. Next morning.” yawned Alex, then they crawled back into their sleeping bags. “Sausages.” Makayla muttered in her sleep. “Sausages and sausages.” Alex rolled over in her sleep. “I still haven’t found diamonds…” she muttered. “Why did they remove roses…” “Sausages and sausages AND sausages!” Alex jerked awake. “What is it? I was dreaming about playing Minecraft! You ruined it!” Alex snapped. “Where did the sausages go…” Makayla murmured very sleepily. “Never mind the sausages, we need to get HOME!” shrieked Alex. “Five more minutes then I’ll go…” yawned Makayla. “NO!” yelled Alex extremely loudly. “We’ve gotta get going!” They packed their bags sleepily then walked into the trees.
Alex and Makayla strolled through the trees, occasionally calling, “Max? Where are you?” Once or twice Alex thought she could hear footsteps over the leaves. The footsteps got louder. “Max? Are you there?” Makayla thought she could hear a little squeaky voice saying, “Y-yes..” “Can you help us find our way home?” Alex called. “Okay…” Max emerged from the trees. “Well, the edge of the forest is north, and the desolate house is west, so we need to go east…” He pulled out his compass. Alex and Makayla followed him to a path, then Max said, “Follow the path left until you get home. Bye!” “Bye!” called Makayla. Their house WAS on the end of the path! When Alex and Makayla arrived at Alex’s house, Alex’s mum flung open the door. “You guys were gone for ages and ages!” “Never mind that, at least we’re home.” Alex replied.

My Mosaic
I made this mosaic in Monday Mashup with Urmi! We had to copy and paste shapes onto a picture and make sure there are small spaces between them, then added a background and deleted the original picture. How long did you think this took me to do?

What I did in the holidays
What I did in the holidays
I woke up in the morning, then realised there was no school. I cheered SO loudly that I woke my brother up and he started screaming. I got sent to my room. At least Mum had cooled down by dinner... After dinner I went out in the backyard to play on my scooter. My brother wanted to play on it too, but when I wouldn't let him he started screaming AGAIN. It was COM-PLETE-LY crazy like that for the rest of the week.
At the start of the 2nd week my 2 best friends Lily and Zoe with 2 dots over the e came for a play date. My brother knocked down our Lego so he got sent to his room! We went out in the garden and made "artworks" out of stuff like rocks, leaves and grass. Very badly.
When it was time for them to go I completely freaked out because my room was a mess and if I didn't clean it up Mum would ban play dates. It took me FOREVER to clean the GIGANTIC mess in my room.
Bedtime on the last day of the holidays came in a flash, but I still fell asleep in about 5 minutes. It was a very STRANGE holiday, but it was still GREAT. How was YOUR holiday?
