Summer Learning Journey week one activity 1 day 1

Sorry guys, I kind of forgot. Hope everyone will forgive me 😖 I'll try and catch up. I have a lot of stuff to do...

Okay, this activity is: What would you take with you on a 3- week voyage at sea? List 10 food items.

  1. Bread because it keeps for quite long if under the right conditions, even though there won't be fridges or freezers, I'll just put it in a container or something.
  2. Canned food because that also keeps for really long.
  3. I don't know... maybe pickled stuff, even though that tastes rubbish.
  4. Some sweets because I'll probably get tired of eating the same stuff over and over.
  5. Fruits like bananas or lemons that don't need to be put in the fridge because it's healthy and I need to get lots of vitamins while on the journey.
  6. Sauces and things so I can make my food items into something delicious!
  7. Some of those Chinese preserved eggs to last me a while.
  8. Honey, because not only is it delicious but it never spoils, so even if the journey was 3 months it'll still be okay.
  9. Some snacks for the first part of the journey.
  10. Vegetables like onions, carrots and potatoes. They last quite a while and don't really need to be put in the fridge.
That's it for this blog post... does water count? I'll definitely bring that!

STEM episode 3

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of So Bored STEM.

We did STEM again, as you can see by the title. Sophia wasn't even here, she was at Ki O Rahi. Emm...😐

So Ocea, Quinn and I had to work together. That's not quite so bad! This time, we had to make a chair that would support a soft toy out of paper and tape. And it had to be 10 cm tall. I didn't get a picture as Ocea might just have accidentally broke it before we took the picture. At least we managed to stay together... Here's what the teachers told us to write:

WALT: problem solve as a team
What went well: teamwork and planning
What was challenging: trying to put it together
Have you done this before?

I did kind of enjoy it, though...

S.T.E.M episode 2

WALT: work and solve problems as a team
So today Room 2 and Room 4 did STEM, again, and this time we had to build a bridge that would hold 2 exercise books when suspended from 2 desks. It went... better than last time. (I did have to keep telling Ocea and Quinn to come back, though.) We could only use 6 big pop sticks, 15 small pop sticks, and 10 rubber bands, and in an emergency, Sellotape. It actually WORKED!
What went well: the planning and teamwork
What didn't go well: building and trying to get it to stay up
What we will do next time: to make sure everyone is on task
What do you think of our bridge?- I couldn't find a picture BTW, will fix

Passion Project

Here´s my passion project. We had to research a topic we really liked and put it into a slideshow, google drawing or poster. I did mine about Minecraft. Here it is!
Do you like it? It took me quite a while to make.

Our trip to the beach

When Room 2 went to the beach to learn about sand dunes, I learned that sand dunes are formed by wind eroding the mountains and breaks the rocks to make the sand, and the sand goes into the river. The river takes the sand into the ocean, and the waves deposit it on the shore, then the wind blows it into the sand dunes.

Wind can put more sand and take the sand away. Storm waves can erode the sand, and humans can damage the sand dunes by running on them. We can protect the sand dunes by planting plants, like the... I can´t spell them! Bugs also live in these plants. A type of spider, lizards and geckos, they all protect the sand dunes. The plants hold the sand in place so it doesn´t blow away.

Did you know there used to be a house near the sand dunes? The people who lived in it couldn´t see the sea; the sand dune was in the way, so they decided they would get part of the sand dune scooped away. Seems good enough, huh? No. The wind funnelled the sand inwards, and into the house´s roof space. A few years later, the roof collapsed with the weight of the sand. Don´t mess with nature!

Here´s a picture. We had to build our own sand dune and show how we could protect it!
